Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic peptide derived from the immunomodulatory molecule tuftsin, with an added Pro-Gly-Pro sequence for enhanced metabolic stability. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it has been investigated for dual anxiolytic and nootropic activity.
In preclinical and clinical models, Selank has been studied for its effects on GABAergic neurotransmission, where it has shown activity comparable to benzodiazepines without sedation, muscle relaxation, or withdrawal effects. Research has examined its modulation of serotonin metabolism, upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and enhancement of enkephalin expression. Additional investigations have explored its immunomodulatory properties, including stabilization of enkephalin degradation and modulation of IL-6 expression in immune cells.
Supplied as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution. Intended for research purposes only.
